Rahul Gandhi Meets PM Modi to Discuss New CBI Chief Appointment

New Delhi, May 5, 2025 – Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister’s Office in Delhi. They came together for an important meeting to choose the next CBI Director.

The current CBI chief, Praveen Sood, will complete his term on May 25, so a new director has to be selected. According to the rules, the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India (or another Supreme Court judge), and the Leader of the Opposition together decide who should be the next CBI head.

This meeting shows that both the ruling party and opposition are working together for important national decisions. Even though Rahul Gandhi and PM Modi are political rivals, they participated in the meeting respectfully.

Earlier, both leaders were also seen together during a tea meeting hosted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in August 2024, showing that there are moments of unity even during political differences.

The final decision on the new CBI Director is expected soon, before the current director retires. This meeting highlights how cooperation is important when it comes to choosing leaders for top institutions in the country.
