Rohit Sharma Retires from Test Cricket, Will Continue Playing ODIs

Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has announced that he is retiring from Test cricket with immediate effect. He shared this news through a post on Instagram. Rohit thanked fans and the Indian team for their support throughout his Test career.

Rohit said he will still play One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and will continue to represent India in limited-overs matches.

This decision comes after a tough time in Test cricket for Rohit. In recent matches against teams like Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia, he did not score many runs. His batting average dropped, and many people started talking about whether it was time for a new captain in Test matches.

Rohit started his Test career in 2013 and played 67 Test matches. He scored 4,301 runs, including 12 centuries (100s), and became Test captain in 2022 after Virat Kohli. Under his leadership, India reached the final of the World Test Championship in 2023.

Now that Rohit has left Test cricket, players like Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah are being considered for the role of next Test captain. However, Bumrah’s fitness will be an important factor in that decision.

Rohit’s Test retirement marks the end of an important part of his cricket journey, but he will still be a key player for India in ODIs.
