IMF Grants $1 Billion Loan to Pakistan Amid Global Concerns
On May 9, 2025, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreed to give $1 billion to Pakistan. This money is part of a bigger $7 billion support plan to help Pakistan improve its struggling economy.
This happened after the IMF reviewed Pakistan’s financial progress and felt that it was making some improvements. With this loan, Pakistan has now received a total of $2.1 billion from the IMF under the same plan.
Along with this, the IMF also approved a separate $1.4 billion loan under a new program called the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). This money is meant to help Pakistan handle long-term problems like climate change and natural disasters.
However, India was not happy with this decision. India did not support the loan, saying it feared Pakistan might misuse the money for harmful activities, especially for supporting terrorism across borders.
Despite this, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the IMF’s help. He said the country is moving toward stability and development.
The IMF said Pakistan has taken good steps to fix its economy. These steps include improving taxes, managing government companies better, and making energy services more efficient.
This loan is expected to help Pakistan manage its debts, improve the economy, and protect against future financial problems.
