Investors Book Profits; Stock Indices End in Red

On May 16, 2025, the Indian stock market ended the week with small losses, as many investors chose to book profits after recent gains.

The BSE Sensex dropped by 200 points (0.24%) and closed at 82,330. During the day, it moved between 82,514 and 82,146. The NSE Nifty 50 also fell by 42 points (0.17%), closing at 25,019.

While the main stock indices went down, small-cap and mid-cap stocks performed better. The Nifty Smallcap 100 rose by 1.86%, and the Nifty Midcap 100 went up by 0.94%.

Some stocks that gained today include Hindustan Unilever, Asian Paints, ITC, and IndusInd Bank, with gains between 0.60% and 1.20%. However, big companies like Bharti Airtel, HCL Tech, SBI, Infosys, and Tech Mahindra saw losses between 0.79% and 2.76%.

In short, as investors booked profits, the market saw a small dip, though smaller companies showed stronger performance.
