Bengaluru Records 105.5 mm Rainfall, City’s Worst in Two Years
Bengaluru faced one of its heaviest rainfalls in recent years, recording 105.5 mm of rain in just 24 hours, ending on the morning of May 19, 2025. This is the highest May rainfall the city has seen in the last two years.
The heavy downpour caused major waterlogging and flooding in many areas of the city. Some of the worst-hit neighborhoods include Horamavu, Sai Layout, Sri Sai Layout, and Rainbow Drive Layout, where roads turned into rivers. In Horamavu, boats had to be used to rescue people who were stuck in knee-deep water.
Even large business areas like Manyata Tech Park were affected, with some parts looking like a lake. Key roads such as Silk Board, Hebbal Junction, Koramangala, Indiranagar, and Electronics City Flyover were flooded, leading to huge traffic jams. The traffic police had to work hard and create special plans to manage the situation.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru. This means more rain and thunderstorms are expected in the coming days. People have been asked to be careful and check weather updates before traveling.
This heavy rain also shows how Bengaluru’s drainage system and road planning are not ready for such extreme weather. Experts say the city needs better infrastructure to deal with heavy rains in the future.
For now, people are advised to stay indoors if possible and avoid flooded roads for their safety.
