Harvard Battles Trump Administration Over Ban on International Students
In May 2025, the Trump administration took a major step by canceling Harvard University’s permission to enroll international students. This decision was based on accusations that Harvard was promoting violence, supporting antisemitism, and working with the Chinese Communist Party. As a result, over 6,700 international students at Harvard could be forced to transfer to other schools or leave the United States if the decision is enforced.
Harvard strongly disagrees with the move and has called it unfair and illegal. The university believes the decision is a form of punishment for its views and actions. Harvard is now helping affected students by giving them legal advice and support.
A federal judge in California has stepped in and temporarily stopped the government from canceling these students’ legal status. This means the students can stay in the U.S. while the case is being reviewed in court.
This situation has added to the growing tension between the Trump administration and top universities in the U.S. Issues like immigration, student rights, and freedom of speech on campus are at the center of the debate. Many people see Harvard’s legal fight as a stand to protect both its students and academic freedom.
