Nirmala Sitharaman: India Leads Global Growth for the Fourth Consecutive Year

India has once again become the fastest-growing major economy in the world, for the fourth year in a row. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the Indian economy grew by 6.5% in the 2024–25 financial year. In the last quarter (January to March 2025), the growth was even higher at 7.4%, which is better than what most experts had predicted.

This strong growth happened because many areas of the economy did well. Construction saw the biggest growth, as more roads, bridges, and buildings were built. Manufacturing also improved, with factories producing more goods. Agriculture did better than expected, and the services sector—which includes jobs like banking, IT, and transport—continued to grow strongly.

One of the main reasons behind this success is the government’s focus on spending money on development projects. These projects created jobs and boosted the economy, even while other countries were facing slowdowns due to global issues like inflation and war. Private companies were more careful with spending, but the government stepped in to keep things moving.

The Reserve Bank of India believes that India will keep growing at a fast pace next year too, with expected growth between 6.3% and 6.8%. International groups like the IMF and World Bank have praised India for its stable and strong economy during uncertain times.

Finance Minister Sitharaman said the government will continue to invest in infrastructure, technology, and people. She also mentioned that India’s goal is to become a fully developed country by 2047, and this kind of growth brings the nation one step closer to that dream.
