Jitendra Singh Blames Nehru for PoK, Mocks Congress Over Rahul Gandhi Comment
Union Minister Jitendra Singh recently criticized the Congress party, saying that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) might not have existed if Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had not been India’s first Prime Minister. He was reacting to a comment made by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who had said that India would have taken back PoK if Rahul Gandhi were the Prime Minister.
Jitendra Singh found this statement funny and said it was strange for Congress leaders to talk about taking back PoK when, according to him, their own party’s past decisions led to the problem. He claimed that during the India-Pakistan war, Indian forces were in a strong position to win back PoK, but Nehru suddenly declared a ceasefire on the radio without asking anyone.
Singh said this decision stopped the army from moving forward and allowed Pakistan to keep control of a part of Kashmir. He added that this was a key mistake that led to the current situation with PoK.
Revanth Reddy had made his statement at a Congress event in Hyderabad. He had questioned why the current Prime Minister did not call an all-party meeting before agreeing to a ceasefire with Pakistan, suggesting that the opposition’s opinion should have been taken.
In response, Jitendra Singh turned the focus back on the Congress party and its history. He said the problem with PoK started because of the way Nehru handled the situation after independence.
The comments from both leaders have added fuel to the ongoing political debate over Kashmir and how both the past and present governments have dealt with it.
