Russia Reports Damage After Ukrainian Drone Attack on Military Airfields

Ukraine carried out a major drone attack on several airbases deep inside Russia. This was one of the biggest and most carefully planned strikes by Ukraine since the war began. The attack caused serious damage to many Russian military planes.

Ukraine’s security agency (SBU) led the operation, which they called “Spider’s Web.” It took 18 months to prepare. More than 100 small drones were hidden inside trucks and taken close to Russian airbases. These drones were then launched to attack five important airbases—Belaya, Olenya, Dyagilevo, Ivanovo, and Ukrainka.

The drones damaged over 40 Russian aircraft, including big bombers that can carry nuclear weapons and special radar planes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the operation was a huge success and claimed it caused about $7 billion worth of damage. He also said it disabled around one-third of Russia’s cruise missile planes.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that five of its airbases were hit and that several aircraft were damaged. Russian officials called the attack a “terrorist act” and said they arrested people involved in the planning.

This drone strike shows that Ukraine now has the ability to carry out long-distance, precise attacks. Experts believe it could change how both countries fight in the war and may force Russia to rethink how it protects its military bases.
