NIA Chief Visits Pahalgam to Check on Terror Attack Investigation
On May 1, 2025, the Chief of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), visited Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir to check the progress of the investigation into the terror attack that happened in Baisaran Valley on April 22. In that attack, 26 people, including tourists, were killed, which shocked the entire country.
During his visit, the NIA Chief met with the investigation team and reviewed the latest findings. According to sources, the attackers had visited several places—Baisaran Valley, Aru Valley, Betaab Valley, and a local amusement park—before choosing Baisaran as the target. They reportedly avoided other locations because of tight security.
The investigation has found that the attackers were helped by local supporters, known as overground workers (OGWs). The NIA has already identified around 20 people who may have helped the terrorists. Some of them have been arrested, while others are being kept under strict watch.
Further, the NIA has discovered communication links pointing to safe houses in Muzaffarabad and Karachi, suggesting that the attack had cross-border support. This has raised serious concerns about Pakistan’s involvement.
In response to the deadly attack, the Indian government has taken strong steps. It has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, reduced diplomatic ties, and given the Indian Armed Forces full freedom to act against those responsible. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that the country will not tolerate such acts of terrorism.
The NIA continues to work on the case, collecting evidence and trying to arrest all those involved in the planning and execution of the attack. The visit by the NIA Chief shows how seriously the government is treating this case and its determination to bring the attackers and their helpers to justice.
