BSNL Sets Up Over 93,000 4G Towers Across India

BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited), the government-owned telecom company, has installed more than 93,450 4G towers across India as of May 2025. This is a big step towards improving mobile internet in the country.

The company aims to reach 1,00,000 towers by the end of June 2025, which will help bring faster internet to many more people, especially in rural and remote areas.

Using Indian Technology

BSNL’s 4G service is special because it is based on Indian-made technology. The network is being built with the help of Indian companies like:

  • C-DOT (Centre for Development of Telematics)
  • Tejas Networks
  • TCS (Tata Consultancy Services)

This makes India one of the few countries with its own homegrown telecom system.

BSNL Making Profits Again

For a long time, BSNL was facing financial losses. But now, things are improving. In the last quarter of the financial year 2025, BSNL made a profit of ₹280 crore. This is the second time in a row it has earned a profit — something it hasn’t done in 18 years.

The company says this success is due to better planning, cost-saving, and smart decisions.

What’s Next for BSNL?

BSNL is now preparing to start testing 5G services in India. It will use the same network built for 4G to upgrade and offer faster 5G internet in the future.

The goal is to provide affordable and strong mobile internet, even in villages and far-off locations, so that everyone in India can stay connected.
