Ola Electric in Trouble: Share Price Falls, Losses Grow, and Competition Rises

Ola Electric, a well-known electric scooter company started by Bhavish Aggarwal, is facing a tough time. Since it joined the stock market in August 2024, its share price has gone down by 30%. The company’s stock, which started at ₹76, is now around ₹53.

Losses Are Growing

In the last three months (January to March 2025), Ola Electric lost ₹870 crore, which is more than double compared to last year’s loss of ₹416 crore. At the same time, its income went down by 62%, earning just ₹611 crore.

The main reason? Fewer people are buying their scooters. Ola sold only 51,375 scooters, while last year during the same time they sold 1.15 lakh scooters.

Falling Behind in the Market

Just one year ago, Ola Electric was the top electric scooter brand with nearly 50% market share. But now, it has dropped to only 20%. Companies like TVS, Bajaj, and Ather Energy are growing fast and taking Ola’s customers.

Other Problems

Apart from money and sales problems, Ola is also dealing with:

  • Government checks: Authorities are reviewing Ola’s reports to see if they gave the right information.
  • Customer complaints: Many customers are unhappy with after-sales service and scooter repairs.

What Is Ola Doing About It?

To save money, Ola has started something called “Project Lakshya” to cut its expenses. They want to reduce monthly costs from ₹121 crore to ₹110 crore by June.

Ola is also planning to launch new electric bikes and reach out to village and small-town customers.

Should You Buy, Hold, or Sell Ola Electric Shares?

  • If you already own Ola shares: It’s better to wait and watch for now. Selling at a loss may not help.
  • If you are thinking of buying: Be careful. It may not be the right time unless you believe in Ola’s long-term future.
  • If you’re okay with risk: You could invest a small amount, but only if you can handle ups and downs.
