Are Top Leaders Misusing Their Constitutional Powers?
After a recent Supreme Court order about Governors and the President delaying state bills, many people are asking an important question: Are they acting like kings in a democracy?
In Tamil Nadu, the Governor delayed several bills passed by the Assembly — even after they were passed twice. The Supreme Court said this is wrong and clearly stated that Governors and the President must act within three months, or the bill will be considered automatically approved.
Still, some ruling party leaders are questioning the court’s authority, asking, “Can the court order the President?” This shows disrespect for the Constitution and democracy.
Even in other states like Kerala, Telangana, and West Bengal, Governors are being used politically to trouble opposition governments. This is not new — earlier, Congress did it, and now BJP is doing the same.
In a true democracy, power belongs to the people, not to any individual. The Constitution starts with “We, the people of India.” So leaders and constitutional heads should follow the law and respect public opinion.
