COVID-19 Cases Rise Again in India, Health Officials Advise Caution

As of June 7, 2025, COVID-19 cases in India have started to rise again. There are now over 5,000 active cases in the country. In the last 24 hours alone, 764 new cases were reported, and 4 people died due to the virus.

Kerala is the state with the highest number of new cases. It reported 192 fresh infections in just one day. Other states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, and Delhi are also seeing more cases.

Doctors say the rise in cases is mostly because of a new version of the virus called NB.1.8.1. It is related to the earlier Omicron variant. Most people who get this new variant are showing only mild symptoms, but older people and those with other health problems need to be more careful.

The Indian government is asking hospitals to be ready. They are checking if there are enough oxygen cylinders, ventilators, medicines, and beds in case the number of patients goes up. Some hospitals are doing special drills to prepare for emergencies.

Even though there is no lockdown or travel ban, health officials are asking people to stay alert. They recommend wearing masks in crowded places, washing hands regularly, and staying home if feeling unwell. People are also reminded to get vaccinated if they haven’t already.
