KSCA Officials Resign After Tragic Stampede at RCB Celebration in Bengaluru

Two top officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) have resigned after a deadly stampede during a celebration for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL win. The incident happened on June 4, 2025, outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where 11 people lost their lives and many others were injured.

KSCA Secretary A. Shankar and Treasurer E.S. Jairam stepped down from their roles, saying they felt responsible for what happened. Although they were not directly involved in organizing the event, they said the loss of lives during a cricket-related program was too serious to ignore.

The event was originally planned to take place at Vidhana Soudha, but at the last minute, it was shifted to the stadium. Thousands of fans rushed to the new location after RCB invited everyone on social media to join the celebration. Unfortunately, the huge crowd was not managed properly, and a stampede happened.

The police have arrested four people so far, including RCB’s marketing head and three event organizers. They were caught at the airport while trying to leave the city.

The Karnataka High Court has asked the government to explain what went wrong and has told the police not to arrest KSCA officials for now, as long as they cooperate with the investigation.

The Karnataka government has promised ₹10 lakh to each family who lost a loved one and will also pay for the treatment of the injured. RCB has also started a fund called “RCB Cares” to help the victims and their families.

The tragedy has made many people question how big events like this are planned and managed. There are now calls for better rules and stronger safety measures to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again.
