Meghalaya Chief Minister Defends State After Honeymoon Murder Blame

After a tourist was murdered during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, the state’s Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, spoke out against people blaming the entire state for the crime. He said it is wrong and unfair to label the whole region as unsafe because of one tragic incident.

The victim, Raja Raghuvanshi, was a businessman from Indore. He was killed while visiting Meghalaya with his wife, Sonam. After investigating the case, the police arrested Sonam and others who were involved. The Chief Minister praised the Meghalaya Police for working quickly and solving the case on their own, even in difficult weather and terrain.

However, after the murder, many people on social media and in news reports started making negative comments about Meghalaya. Some even said the whole state is not safe for tourists. Chief Minister Sangma said these comments are hurtful and damaging. He reminded people that Meghalaya is known for its peace, beauty, and hospitality, and that one incident should not define the whole state.

People in different parts of Meghalaya also came together to show their support for justice and peace. Silent marches and prayer meetings were held in places like Shillong and Sohra. Locals said they were shocked by the crime but urged others not to judge their state based on it.

Many local groups have also asked for public apologies from those who spread false or harmful messages online. They worry that this negative attention might harm tourism, which is very important for the state’s economy.

The Chief Minister said that the government is thinking about taking legal action against people who have spread false claims or insulted the state without proof. He said it’s important to speak up for justice, but also to protect the image and pride of Meghalaya.
