Virat Kohli Named in Complaint Following Bengaluru Stampede at RCB Event
A police complaint has been filed against Indian cricketer Virat Kohli after a tragic stampede happened in Bengaluru during a celebration for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL victory. The stampede took place on June 4, 2025, outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and led to the deaths of 11 people and injured over 50 others.
The complaint was filed by a social activist named H.M. Venkatesh. He blamed Kohli and other IPL players for encouraging the public to follow the tournament too closely, calling it a form of gambling. He believes this huge fan following led to the massive crowd and the unfortunate incident. The activist also said that the IPL has changed cricket and made it more about money than the sport itself.
The police said that they have received the complaint and will look into it as part of their investigation. So far, four people have been arrested — including RCB’s marketing head and three event organizers — for failing to control the crowd properly.
The Karnataka High Court has told police not to take any action for now against some members of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) until further notice.
The state government has announced ₹10 lakh compensation for each family that lost a loved one in the stampede. They also promised to pay for all medical treatments for the people who got injured.
This incident has raised many questions about how such large public events are managed and whether proper safety measures were in place. People are demanding answers and better planning to make sure such a tragedy does not happen again.
