Donald Trump Says He Will Talk to Putin and Zelenskyy to Stop the War
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said that he will call both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday. His goal is to help stop the war between Russia and Ukraine. Trump called the war a “bloodbath” and said too many people are getting hurt and killed.
Recently, Russian and Ukrainian leaders had peace talks in Turkey, but they did not agree to stop the fighting. Russia wants Ukraine to give up land, but Ukraine refused. They did agree to exchange prisoners, which was one small step forward.
Trump said he wants to help because he knows both leaders. He also said that if the calls don’t work, he will support punishing Russia with more sanctions. Trump hopes the war can end soon through peaceful talks.
President Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready to talk too, but only if there is a real and complete ceasefire. He said Ukraine will not agree to give up any part of its land.
Other countries and leaders, including NATO and the Vatican, are supporting peace efforts. The Vatican even offered to host future talks if needed.
Trump’s plan to speak to both leaders is seen as a new try to bring peace, as the war continues to hurt many people and destroy homes.
