In a strong response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, India has launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting terrorist camps across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The Indian Armed Forces announced the operation early Wednesday, calling it a “precise and controlled mission” against terror infrastructure used to plan attacks on Indian soil.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the strikes were designed to avoid unnecessary escalation.
“We have not targeted any Pakistani military locations. The operation was focused and limited in scope,” the statement read.
The ministry also added that India showed “great restraint” in both choosing the targets and how the operation was carried out. A full press briefing with more details is expected later today.
On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Army posted:
“Justice is served. Jai Hind!”
In another post, it declared:
“Ready to strike, trained to win.”
Coinciding with the military action, the Ministry of Home Affairs launched a civil defence exercise across 244 districts to boost national readiness during emergencies.
This large-scale mock drill includes:
Officials say the timing of the exercise is not a coincidence. With heightened security alerts after the Pahalgam massacre, the government is reinforcing both military readiness and public safety.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier condemned the Pahalgam attack, promising to bring those responsible to justice.
“We will chase them down — wherever they are,” he had said after the incident.
The terror strike, which mainly affected tourists in south Kashmir, shocked the nation and drew international condemnation. India’s response through Operation Sindoor is now being seen as a decisive step in its counterterrorism strategy.
