Pakistan has decided not to allow ships from India to enter its ports. This big move comes after rising tensions between the two countries due to a recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
What Happened?
On April 22, a deadly attack took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In this attack, 26 people were killed — most of them were tourists. India blamed the attack on terrorists coming from Pakistan. One group first claimed responsibility but later denied it.
What Did India Do?
India responded strongly. On May 3, India made the following decisions:
- It banned all imports from Pakistan.
- It said Pakistani ships cannot enter Indian ports.
- It also stopped all mail and parcel services between the two countries.
India said these steps were important to protect national security.
What Did Pakistan Do in Return?
Soon after, Pakistan also took strict action. It said:
- Indian ships are no longer allowed to come to Pakistani ports.
- Pakistani ships will not visit Indian ports either.
- Any special case will be checked individually.
Pakistan also:
- Closed its airspace to Indian planes.
- Sent back Indian diplomats.
- Suspended the Simla Agreement, a peace agreement between the two countries.
What Does This Mean?
Trade between India and Pakistan was already very small. This new decision stops whatever little trade was left. Both countries have now completely cut off ship travel between them.
While the economic effect is not huge, the political message is very strong. It shows that relations between India and Pakistan are getting worse.
More Tension
Pakistan also tested a missile shortly after these events. This has made people more worried that the situation could get even more serious.
