Patna Gets a Modern Airport Terminal to Boost Air Travel

Patna has taken a big step toward better air travel with the opening of a brand-new terminal at the Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal on May 29, 2025. This modern building is large and well-equipped. It can handle around 3,000 passengers at busy times and up to 1 crore (10 million) passengers every year. The terminal has 64 check-in counters, five aerobridges for easy boarding, and five luggage belts. It also has modern safety features like automatic baggage screening.

The design of the terminal is not just modern but also reflects Bihar’s culture. It includes beautiful artwork from Mithila and takes inspiration from the old and famous Nalanda University. A large parking space has also been built, which can hold over 1,100 cars. The new terminal is eco-friendly too. It has received a 4-star rating for being energy efficient and environmentally safe. Regular flight services from the terminal are expected to start in the first week of June.

Along with this, a new civil airport terminal is also being planned at Bihta, about 30 km from Patna. The foundation stone for this was also laid by the Prime Minister. The Bihta terminal will be even larger and will help reduce the crowd at the Patna airport. It is expected to handle around 50 lakh passengers every year and will include facilities like lounges, shops, and modern parking.

These projects are expected to greatly improve air travel in Bihar. They will make travel easier for passengers, bring in more tourists, and support the state’s development.
