Priyanka Gandhi Says Caste Census Decision Was Due to Public Pressure
New Delhi – Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said that the central government agreed to include caste details in the upcoming census because of pressure from the public and opposition parties.
Speaking to reporters, Priyanka welcomed the move, saying, “We are happy that the government finally agreed to a caste census. But this decision was taken only because people across the country demanded it, and the opposition kept raising the issue.”
She explained that a caste census is important to understand the real situation of different communities in India. This data can help the government create better plans and support for the people who need it most.
Priyanka also said that the government delayed the decision for many years, even though many had asked for it earlier. She believes the caste census will help bring fairness and equality by showing how resources should be shared.
Many other political leaders and parties have also supported the idea, saying it is a step towards social justice.
The central government is expected to announce the full details and dates of the upcoming census soon.
