Cummins Says He Expected India to Be in WTC Final

Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins has said it feels strange not to see India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final this time. In an interview, he said, “You always expect India to be around,” because they played in the last two WTC finals and are one of the strongest teams in the world.

India reached the WTC finals in 2021 and 2023, but this time they didn’t qualify. In 2021, they lost to New Zealand, and in 2023, they lost to Australia. This year, Australia will play against South Africa in the final at Lord’s in London from June 11 to June 15.

Cummins said it’s nice to have a new team like South Africa in the final. He mentioned that South Africa has also missed out on many big finals in recent years, especially in Test cricket, so it’s good to see them getting a chance.

He also praised South Africa’s performance during the tournament. While Australia faced tougher teams, Cummins said that South Africa still did a great job to reach the final. He added that their bowling attack is very strong, with both pace and spin options, and they will be a tough team to beat.

Last year, Cummins led Australia to victory against India in the WTC final. This year, he’s hoping to repeat that success, but he admitted that things feel a little different without India in the big match.
