KL Rahul Just 33 Runs Away from Breaking Virat Kohli’s Big T20 Record
In today’s IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans in Delhi, star batsman KL Rahul has a great chance to break a special record held by Virat Kohli. Rahul needs only 33 runs to reach 8000 runs in T20 cricket.
If he does that today, he will become the fastest Indian player to score 8000 runs in T20s. Kohli reached this milestone in 243 innings, but Rahul can do it in just 214 innings. Not just that, he will also become the second-fastest in the world, only behind Chris Gayle, who did it in 213 innings.
Rahul will also pass Babar Azam, who took 218 innings to reach the same mark. So far this season, KL Rahul has scored 381 runs in 11 matches, with an average of 47.63 and a strike rate of 142.63. He has also scored three half-centuries and is now in 10th place among the top run-getters of the season.
Rahul has batted in different positions – as an opener, at number 3, and mostly at number 4 – but has still performed consistently. Today’s match is also very important for Delhi Capitals in the playoff race. They have 13 points from 11 games and are currently in 5th place on the points table. To qualify for the playoffs, Delhi needs to win at least two of their remaining three matches. After today’s match against Gujarat, they will face Mumbai Indians on May 21 and Punjab Kings on May 24.
Even if they lose today, they can still stay in the playoff race by winning the next two games. With both a major record and playoff hopes on the line, today’s match is going to be a thrilling contest for both fans and players.
