Rishabh Pant Fined ₹30 Lakh for Slow Over-Rate in IPL 2025
Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), was fined ₹30 lakh after his team was too slow in finishing their bowling overs during their last IPL 2025 league match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This was the third time in the season that LSG had a slow over-rate, which led to a bigger fine.
The rule in the IPL says teams must complete their bowling within a specific time. If they take too long, the captain and players are fined. Since this was the third offence by LSG, Pant received the highest fine yet. All other players who played in the match, including the Impact Player, were also fined ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fees—whichever amount is less.
Earlier in the season, LSG were also fined for slow over-rates during their matches on April 4 and April 27 against Mumbai Indians. The IPL governing body (BCCI) is very strict about these rules to make sure matches finish on time.
Even though Pant scored a brilliant 118 runs off 61 balls in that match, helping his team score 227/3, RCB chased down the target and won the game by six wickets. As a result, LSG missed out on the playoffs.
Pant’s batting performance was praised, but the fine has raised concerns about the team’s on-field time management. The IPL wants teams to follow the rules strictly, and repeated delays can lead to bigger penalties or even suspensions for the captain.
