Ruturaj Gaikwad Set to Play for Yorkshire in England Domestic Season
Indian cricketer Ruturaj Gaikwad has signed a deal to play for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in England. He will take part in both the County Championship and the One-Day Cup for the second half of the 2025 season. This will be his first time playing in English domestic cricket.
Ruturaj, who is the captain of Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and Maharashtra in domestic cricket, will join Yorkshire in July. His first match is expected to be against Surrey at Scarborough. The club hopes he will strengthen their batting lineup with his experience and skills.
Ruturaj is known for his calm and steady batting. He has played for India in both ODI and T20 formats. In domestic cricket, he has done especially well in one-day matches, scoring over 4,000 runs at an average of more than 56. He also has good numbers in first-class cricket, with over 2,600 runs and several centuries.
Earlier this year, Ruturaj suffered an elbow injury that forced him to leave the IPL season early. Although he was part of the India A tour to England, he didn’t get a chance to play in those matches. Now, playing for Yorkshire will give him a chance to return to form and get used to English conditions.
Yorkshire’s team management is happy to have him and believes he will be a strong addition. Ruturaj also said he is excited to join a club with such a great history and is ready to give his best. He joins a list of famous Indian cricketers who have played for Yorkshire before, including Sachin Tendulkar and Cheteshwar Pujara.
