Sourav Ganguly Upset Over Shreyas Iyer Being Left Out of England Tour
Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed his disappointment after batsman Shreyas Iyer was not picked for India’s Test team for the upcoming England tour. Ganguly said that Iyer has been playing very well and deserved a place in the team.
In a recent interview, Ganguly said, “Shreyas has performed under pressure, scored important runs, and handled fast bowling well. I would have definitely included him in the Test team to see how he performs in England.”
Shreyas Iyer had a strong domestic season. He scored 233 and 142 runs in Ranji Trophy matches and helped Mumbai win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the 2025 IPL, he also did well, scoring 604 runs in 17 matches with a high strike rate of 175. Despite all these performances, the selectors said there was “no space” for him in the current Test squad.
Ganguly feels this decision is unfair. He said, “Iyer has done everything to earn his spot. He had a great year and should have been given a chance.”
The first Test match against England starts on June 20 in Leeds. Many cricket fans and experts are now discussing whether the selection was right, and Iyer’s absence has become a big topic in the cricket world. Ganguly also said India has a good chance to do well in England if the batting holds up and Jasprit Bumrah stays fit.
